Digifest is a yearly event hosted by the University of Houston to showcase the work of digital media seniors. With the event, they will be able to meet with professional recruiters and face their career field with more confidence. Creating an identity system and event branding for Digifest is part of the project. The branding should be able to represent digital media to the viewer and show its importance.
Initially, I was thinking of doing vector lines and shapes. When I realized, the project didn't connect to art and technology, I decided to create something that represented versatility and connection. Using Photoshop and image references shows how art and technology can be mixed together. As I made the materials, many problems occurred, and the most significant ones were computer crashes and font placement. Nevertheless, I was able to bring everything together and fix my mistakes.
The graphics were created by making two images separately and then moving them around the materials and bifold. I spent about two days each for the imagery and its form, and for the material and bifold, it took me a day. I used the girl imagery for the poster cover, access card, and front cover bifold because of how centered it looked, and I used the guy imagery for the announcement card and back cover bifold because of its angled corners. In addition, pieces of the images could be placed around the backs of the bifold and announcement cards to show a connection with the front. There was no time to lay out the first set of fonts. Since I lost my revised fonts when my school computer crashed, I decided to recreate them using Crimson and left the header in a brighter red, and only emphasized the headers, dates, website, address, quotes, and room location. In order to make sure the viewer is able to read every word correctly while leaving the body text alone, I chose the magazine-style font placement for the bifold text and a postcard-like structure for the announcement card the poster was made to anchor the viewer from left to right. A very visually appealing and eye-catching type brand was created; overall, I think my Digifest materials and bifold turned out well.
